ExpertZoo.com: Scam or Legitimate Business?

  1. The next thing I noticed was a claim from some text near the top of homepage: “MILLIONS USE EXPERTZOO.” Really? Millions? Let's examine that idea.
    • Using a sliver of SEO skills, I checked ExpertZoo's traffic on Compete.com. You can see the site averages 6,000 unique visitors per month. If we take when the site's domain name was first registered, March 13, 2007, we see that at best, they could have only had 144,000 unique visitors. Ever. And that is a very generous number, considering ExpertZoo would have had to go live the day the domain was registered (unlikely), they would need 6,000 unique visitors from that day forth (very unlikely), and converted every visitor to a member (a Herculean effort). And ExpertZoo would still only have ~144,000 members. Not millions.
  2. The third item I had issue with was ExpertZoo's membership focus. They are desperately trying to convert real estate agents. And how do I know that?
    • Using another site, KeywordSpy.com, we see that they focus their marketing on two keyword phrases, “marketing real estate agent” and “marketing for real estate agent.”
    • Here is an example of their ads:
    • Real Estate Agent Tools
      #1 Rated Real Estate Agent
      Marketing Tool. Get Clients Today.

    • Why would ExpertZoo concentrate on selling real estate agents? Because in 2006, there were 1.2 million Realtors® in the United States. As you may know, not all real estate agents are Realtors®, so the actual number of agents is higher. Last I read, they were the largest self-employed sector in the United States. There is usually only an office staff layer to circumvent before you are dealing with the decision maker, the agent. So marketing to them makes sense.
  3. Finally, the last thing I noticed was the member rating system: it lacks a shred of integrity because every member has a 5 star rating! Please examine the homepage for yourself, and focus on the ‘Members of the Week' section. With every refresh, a new sea of five star ratings will appear. Need additional proof?
